Xxshoku Bakery - Aranya, CH (2021)
XXSHOKU is a Ningbo based bakery who is looking forward to open a new shop in the very happening Aranya resort. The bakery not only churns out a wide range of delicacies, but also comes with a matching setting where to hang out and chill.
The establishment is located at a first floor of a residential building which created a conundrum for natural lighting. Though the existing condition allows full height windows, the depth of the building still casts shadows on more than a few corners. To resolve this, the first move is putting the kitchen at the back to create a shallower storefront, and then introducing a dynamic wall with breathable openings into the space to develop a secondary hierarchy.
Most of the display boxes and sitting get pushed towards the windows whereas the more service-oriented sections like the bar and cashier are situated slightly behind. With various openings on the center wall, the two sections remain an active conversation. The openings also allows the back sections to catch a portion of the amazing natural light.
The overall palette is warm and simple with beige toned stucco and walnut accented by a touch of travertine, creating a nice relaxing background for anyone who is on vacation mode.
The bakery also has a very chill outdoor sitting section where tourists and residents can all hang out on sunny mornings.
